MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky suggested that the US and some of its European allies could decide the fate of Ukraine behind its back.
"We do not want this to happen behind the backs of Ukraine," he told Bloomberg. "I very much believe that the US won’t do that, although I’m not sure that earlier this did not happen. Here I’m speaking not just about America, but some European partners."
According to the Wall Street Journal, US President Donald Trump has tasked his special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, with ending the Ukrainian conflict within 100 days. The report said making a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a much harder challenge than Trump thought when he said during his campaign that, if elected, he would end the conflict before he was sworn in.
On January 7, Trump conceded that the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict could take more than 24 hours - the time he said it would take while he was still campaigning. Kellogg said that he would like to reach a deal within 100 days. On January 21, Trump did not rule out that the US could bring its weapons supplies to Ukraine to a complete stop, and also declared he was ready to meet with the Russian president "at any time." At the same time, the new US leader said that sanctions against Russia could be tightened if it did not agree to a deal on Ukraine.
Putin earlier said Moscow is open for talks on Ukraine with the new US administration, but signaled that it is crucial to remove the root causes of the crisis. He reiterated that Russia took note of the statements by Trump and his team about the desire to restore communication and do their best to prevent a Third World War.
