UN Security Council members urge all states to cooperate with Russia on terrorist attack

UN, March 23. /TASS/. Members of the UN Security Council have "condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack" at Crocus City Hall and have urged all countries to cooperate actively with Russia for bringing to justice all those linked to the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack, according to a statement passed at Russia’s initiative, which was published by Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky on his Telegram channel.

"The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack at a concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region, the Russian Federation, on 22 March 2024. This reprehensible act of terrorism resulted in the grievous loss of dozens of lives and has left more than 100 injured, some in critical condition," the statement said. The members of the Security Council also expressed "their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Russian people," and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

"The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice. They urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of the Russian Federation, as well as all other relevant authorities in this regard," the statement reads.

"The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed. They reaffirmed the need for all States to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts," according to the statement.

A terrorist attack was carried out at the Crocus City Hall music venue in the city of Krasnogorsk near Moscow on Friday evening. Unidentified gunmen armed with assault rifles went on a shooting spree. An explosion rocked the building, starting a fire. According to preliminary figures provided by the Federal Security Service, 40 people were killed and another 100 were injured. The special services are conducting a search operation. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin canceled all mass events in the capital in the next two days, and a number of other Russian regions followed suit.
