Kaspersky Lab to close office in Washington

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed the US authorities’ decision against Kaspersky Lab as politically motivated

MOSCOW, December 7. /TASS/. Russian antivirus solutions provider Kaspersky Lab will close an office in Washington that dealt with sales of solutions for US government authorities, representative of the corporate press service Andrei Bulai told TASS on Thursday.

"Yes [we are closing it - TASS]. The goal of its operations was to sell our solutions to US government authorities; there is no such opportunity at present," the source said.

This corporate unit has been functioning since 2014.

On September 13, the US Department of Homeland Security announced that Kaspersky Lab products threatened the country’s national security and urged US government agencies to abandon its products. According to the department, the Russian company's products can be used by Russian authorities to access government documents of the United States.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed the US authorities’ decision against Kaspersky Lab as politically motivated. Moscow said this move amounts to unfair competition.
