MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) maintains contacts both with Moscow and Kiev with regards to a visit to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (NPP), Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday.
Earlier, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that 30,000 kilograms of plutonium and 40,000 kilograms of enriched uranium are located at this NPP.
"The agency is in constant touch both with the Ukrainian side and the Russian side on the subject of organizing this visit," the Kremlin official said in response to a question by TASS whether the IAEA addressed Russia in order to obtain access to the facility.
The spokesman noted that in order to conduct this visit, it is necessary to settle a number of logistics and technical issues. "From which side to enter, from which territory, through which checkpoints, on what kind of transport - they are coordinating all these details now," he explained. "The contacts are maintained, work is underway," he added.
According to Grossi, currently IAEA inspectors do not have access to the NPP, yet the agency hopes to visit it in order to prevent a problem or verify that the weapon-grade material stored there has not been deviated for other uses.
