Police detains 57 people in Netherlands following Amsterdam riots

The department noted that a previously announced demonstration against the arrival of Maccabi players was relocated to Anton de Komplein Square

THE HAGUE, November 8. /TASS/. Dutch police have detained 57 people in connection with the riots that occurred during a football match between the local Ajax football club and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam, the agency reported in a statement on its website.

It notes that the detentions began before the game, when several hundred Maccabi fans gathered near Dam Square. Law enforcement initially detained about 10 individuals for various offenses, including public order violations.

The department noted that a previously announced demonstration against the arrival of Maccabi players was relocated to Anton de Komplein Square. Some demonstrators attempted to move from there to the stadium, leading to clashes with the police. One police officer was injured in the incident. Dutch police added that a total of 57 people were detained, most for disturbing public order.

On the night of November 8, at least 10 Israelis were injured in an attack by Palestinian supporters in Amsterdam, according to Israel's Ynet news website. The incident occurred outside the stadium following the UEFA Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi (5-0). At least five fans were stabbed, and some were struck by a passing car. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the evacuation of Israelis from Amsterdam.
