Court arrests former head of Russian region accused of $2.5 mln bribe

The court has authorized arrest for two months of the former head of Russia's republic of Bashkortostan

MOSCOW, April 4. /TASS/. Moscow City's Basmanny district court has authorized arrest for two months of the former president of Russia's constituent republic of Bashkortostan, Alexander Solovyov, who is accused of taking a bribe of over 140 million rubles ($ 2.5 million) from contractors in a bridge construction project, a TASS reporter said in an account right from the courtroom.

"The court ruled to answer the investigators' petition and to appoint custory for two months, or through to June 4, as a pretrial measure for Solovyov," Justice Artur Karpov said while reading the court's resolution.
