Take the money and run: Ukraine banks make off with Melitopol pension cash, official says

The first office of MRB Bank has opened in Melitopol

SIMFEROPOL, June 2. /TASS/. Ukrainian banks pulled money designated for pensions out of Melitopol or destroyed it when leaving the city in southeastern Ukraine, local administration head Galina Danilchenko said in an interview with the Crimean TV network Millet.

"When leaving here, the banks took out pension money, and incidents were reported when they destroyed millions worth of funds that were to be paid to retirees," Danilchenko said.

The first office of MRB Bank has opened in Melitopol. Vladimir Rogov, a member of the chief council of Zaporozhye’s military-civilian administration, has said Russian forces now control over 70% of the region’s territory. A dual currency system is in place, yet Ukraine has cut off mobile phone communication, he added.
