Tornado-S to develop into robotic MLRS

Tornado-S has 12 guides for 300mm rocket-propelled projectiles, having a firing range of 120 km against 70-90 km of Smerch

MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Smerch and Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) may be developed into robotic vehicles, Rostec Industrial Director for armaments, munitions and special chemistry Bekhan Ozdoyev told TASS.

"Today, we can create the best armaments in the world, which include Smerch and its modifications. They are unrivaled in the world by firepower, reliability and other characteristics. The modernization potential has not been exhausted. In future, Smerch and Tornado-S can be developed into new-generation MLRS, including robotic ones, according to the experience of the special military operation. It means Smerch 300mm successors will be the most powerful MLRS in the Russian army," he said.

Tornado-S has 12 guides for 300mm rocket-propelled projectiles. It has a firing range of 120 km against 70-90 km of Smerch. Each projectile can have an individual flight assignment and can be guided by GLONASS space navigation system. The destruction area is 60 hectares. Tornado-S accelerates the missions. Only several minutes are necessary to fire at the adversary. It takes one minute to deploy the weapon and abandon the position. Thus, the weapon escapes retaliatory fire. Tornado-S is to replace Smerch MLRS in artillery formations.
