NEW YORK, November 6. /TASS/. Republican Donald Trump receives at least three out of five electoral votes in the state of Nebraska, according to a forecast released by the NBC broadcaster.
The counting of votes has not yet been officially completed, with less than 50% of ballots processed. So far, Trump is receiving 51.6% of the state's popular vote, with his Democratic rival Kamala Harris receiving 46.9%. Trump is also leading in one of Nebraska's three electoral districts.
Republicans have consistently won in Nebraska since 1968. A unique feature of Nebraska's voting system, introduced in 1992, is that two of the state's five electoral votes go to the candidate who wins the statewide popular vote, while each of the three congressional districts awards one electoral vote to the candidate who wins that district. In the 2020 election, Trump won 58.2% of the statewide vote, earning four electoral votes, while Democrat Joe Biden, with 39.2%, received one electoral vote by winning one of the three districts. Besides Nebraska, Maine also uses this system of electoral vote distribution.
