China expects US to develop bilateral relations under next president — embassy

WASHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. Beijing expects that Washington will seek to develop relations with China regardless of who is elected US president, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the US, told TASS.

"The presidential election is the domestic affair of the United States. China, committed to the principle of non-interference in others’ internal affairs, will not interfere in the US presidential election," he pointed out.

"Developing China-US relations is in the fundamental interest of our two peoples and two countries and meets the expectation of the international community. No matter who is elected as US President, we hope the US will work with us in the same direction, follow the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, and advance the steady, sound and sustainable growth of bilateral relations for the benefit of the two countries and the world at large," Liu added.

"Meanwhile, we will continue to firmly uphold our sovereignty, security, and development interests," he stressed.

The 2024 United States elections are taking place on November 5. Nationwide, American citizens are electing the President and Vice President of the United States, all representatives to the House and one-third of the senators, as well as governors of 11 states and two US territories. The race for the White House pits incumbent Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris against former Republican President Donald Trump.
