Skoda, Volkswagen to recall over 55,000 cars in Russia — regulator

All owners of vehicles subject to the recall will be informed of the need to bring the vehicle to the nearest dealership for repairs, Rosstandart said

MOSCOW, December 23. /TASS/. AGR LLC will recall 31,741 Skoda Rapid cars and 23,943 Volkswagen Polo cars sold in Russia from 2014 to 2023, the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart) reported on its website.

"The recall will cover 31,741 Skoda Rapid and 23,943 Volkswagen Polo vehicles sold within the period from 2014 to 2023 with VINs according to the schedule," the statement says.

The reason for the recall of the cars is that the electrostatic charge may accumulate on the surface of fuel lines at Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Polo cars during a long-term operation in the idle mode and under extremely low environment temperature (below minus 35 degrees Celsius), which in extremely rate circumstances may lead to disintegration of the fuel line material, the regulator informed.

An earthing cable for fuel filters is planned to be installed in all the vehicles. All owners of vehicles subject to the recall will be informed of the need to bring the vehicle to the nearest dealership for repairs, Rosstandart said.

Car owners can also independently find on the Rosstandart website whether their vehicle is subject to recall by comparing the VIN code of their own car with the list that falls under the recall program. Repair work will be carried out free of charge, the report says.
