Russian universities excluded from Bologna Process, says science and education ministry

A decision to terminate Russia and Belarus’s representation in all the structures of the Bologna Process was announced on April 11, Russian Deputy Science and Higher Education Minister Dmitry Afanasyev specified

MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. All Russian universities have been excluded from the Bologna Process, Deputy Science and Higher Education Minister Dmitry Afanasyev told the upper house of parliament on Monday.

"The Bologna Follow-up Group on April 11 announced a decision to terminate Russia and Belarus’s representation in all the structures of the Bologna Process," Afanasyev said at a meeting of the Federation Council’s committee on science, education and culture. "As our rectors, heads of educational organizations have signed the Russian Union of Rectors’ appeal in support of the president over the special operation, all educational organization in the country are excluded from the Bologna Process."

On May 24, Russia’s science and higher education minister, Valery Falkov, called the Bologna system the "past stage", adding that Russia would have a system of education of its own. The Ministry envisions smooth transition from the Bologna system to a national one.
