MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. The Russian drama White Whale by director Tatyana Fedorovskaya about the problem of adopted children being returned to orphanages was included in the program of the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), the press service of the IVI online platform reported.
The movie is part of the IVI Originals line, it will be screened at the festival on April 23 and 24. "My movie is trying to draw a viewer’s attention to a critical social problem - the return of adopted children back to orphanages. I would like to note that in my work I was not trying to depict the main character as a bad person committing a big mistake. Everything is much more complicated. His actions lay bare the deep problems of the adoption system: not all foster parents attend a school for adoptive parents, while the corruption of the system simplifies both the adoption process and the process of returning children," the press service quoted the director who also wrote the script as saying.
The movie depicts a successful lawyer and his wife who are bringing up two adopted children who turn out to carry a rare genetic disease they inherited from their biological mother. The cast includes Dainius Gavenonis, Rasa Samuolyte, Nil Bugaev and Alexander Mizev. The motion picture was filmed with the support of Russia’s Ministry of Culture and VTB.
The Seattle International Film Festival has been held annually since 1976 and is considered to be one of the major ones in North America. In Russia, White Whale will open in 2022.
