HAIKOU /China/, 26 October. /TASS/. The Belarusian State University (BSU) and the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and Technology City in the city of Sanya on Hainan Island are successfully promoting a joint scientific and educational project, Sanya Daily reported.
According to the newspaper, the first batch of Chinese students began one-year preparatory courses at the Institute of Innovative Education under the auspices of BSU in Sanya in September. The students have successfully adapted to the teaching regime within a month, it said.
"The first batch of students will study more than 20 fields at BSU, including archive management, economics, management, radiophysics, geography, logistics, design and Russian linguistics," said Yang Sen, deputy head of the institute.
He noted that the Institute of Innovative Education is now accepting applications for the 2025 academic year. "We will expand the admission quota so that more Chinese students will be able to share [the knowledge gained from] high-quality international educational resources in our country after [studying] in Sanya," Yang Sen added.
The deputy head of the institute explained that Yazhou Science City not only provides significant support to the university in terms of providing equipment, but also helps foreign teachers apply for qualification assessment under the Professional Recruitment Programme. According to him, about 75%of those teaching at the institute are foreigners.
The Sanya Daily quoted the head of the institute, Svetlana Kobachevskaya, as saying that in the future the university will promote the practical application of scientific and technical developments, conduct exchanges at the level of specialists, and promote the establishment of research structures in accordance with the needs of the working world. The official said that international education in Sanya has a promising future.
New science and education project between China and Belarus
In March, the Institute of Innovative Education under the auspices of Belarusian State University (BSU) was opened on the territory of Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and Technology City. The Belarusian university signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation with Sanya Yazhou Bay Sci-tech City Development & Construction Co. The new structure in Sanya specialises in preparatory programmes, will offer bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programmes, and will pay special attention to training skilled personnel in high demand for international projects.
In September, a delegation led by Victar Kochyn, BSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalisation of Education, travelled to China. He visited the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) secondary school in Sanya, the Hainan Institute of Tropical Oceanography and the Sanya Aviation and Tourism College. During the visit, the secondary schools of the Belarusian university and SISU signed a partnership agreement to promote cooperation.
