Moscow-led security bloc chief warns of West’s failure to build dialogue

"When politicians and government officials advocate for an honest international dialogue and equal cooperation, they can only be applauded," Imangali Tasmagambetov emphasized

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The West’s unwillingness to build dialogue with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) reveals a dangerous lack of understanding of how to ensure international security, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said in an interview with TASS.

"There is a dangerous lack of understanding of what security is in today’s world and how it can be ensured behind Western politicians’ stance and their unwillingness to engage in dialogue with the CSTO," he pointed out.

The secretary general stressed that "the CSTO did not initiate a severance of ties [with the West]." Moreover, "there are United Nations platforms where it is impossible to completely block the CSTO," he added. In particular, according to Tasmagambetov, in July, Russia initiated the UN Security Council’s discussions on the role of the CSTO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in maintaining international peace and security. On November 18, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on cooperation between the United Nations and the CSTO despite opposition from NATO countries.

"When politicians and government officials advocate for an honest international dialogue and equal cooperation, they can only be applauded," Tasmagambetov emphasized.
