Russian security official urges to keep powder dry to ward off potential threats

"The ‘Country’s Defense’ strategic national priority is designed to address this task," Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Mikhail Popov noted

MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. Russia has been a tasty treat for invaders throughout history and has always had to maintain its guard, Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Mikhail Popov said in an interview with the government’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily on Wednesday.

"Russia with its vast expanses and resources has always been a tasty treat for foreign invaders," the security official said. Regrettably, "the deplorable experience of their invasions does not teach present-day Western politicians and militaries, who wish to solve their own problems at Russia’s expense, he pointed out.

"This means that we must always keep the powder dry. The ‘Country’s Defense’ strategic national priority is designed to address this task," the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council said.

Troop rearmament and successes in creating new armaments and military hardware, as well as social and political stability, offer a unique opportunity to focus on measures in coming years to address the tasks of cultivating human capital, comprehensively developing the economy on a new technological basis, and improving state governance, Popov stressed.

This is why the new national security strategy prioritizes preserving the Russian people and developing human potential, he pointed out.

"The ‘Country’s Defense’ strategic national priority is being implemented to create conditions for the peaceful social and economic development of the Russian Federation and ensure its military security. Also, it emphasizes military-patriotic upbringing and citizens’ training for military service within the framework of implementing the state’s youth policy to foster patriots, who love their country, respect its past and link their future with Russia," the security official specified.
