GENEVA, June 23. /TASS/. The United States and Israel are waging a war against the UN Charter by attacking Iran and putting themselves above international law, American lawyer, former independent expert with the UN Human Rights Committee Alfred-Maurice de Zayas said.
"Essentially the United States is at war against the UN Charter, against international law and morals, against the post-war commitment to settle disputes through diplomacy and by peaceful means," he told TASS.
According to him, the US attacks on Iran is "a gross violation of article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force without specific approval by the UN Security Council."
"The US and Israel are out of control. They have placed themselves above international law, and there is no possible argument in international law that would justify the US and Israeli aggressions. They are international outlaws," the expert said.
In his opinion, the international community should express its protest and take appropriate measures. For instance, they could file a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court (ICC). The expert also cited the severance of trade and diplomatic relations with Israel and boycott of American goods, such as the refusal to purchase Boeing aircraft, weapons or wheat from the United States, as possible retaliatory measures.
Israel launched a military operation against Iran on the night of June 13. The Islamic Republic retaliated less than a day later. Mutual blows continue. Both sides have reported deaths and injuries and admitted that several targets were hit on their territories.
The United States joined the armed conflict nine days after its escalation: on the night of June 22, the American Air Force attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities - in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
