Lebanon deal won't happen unless Israel given right to eradicate Hezbollah — Katz

Israel Katz pointed out that the goals of the war in the north are to disarm Hezbollah, to push its forces past the Litani River deep within Lebanese territory, and to make it possible for the residents of Israel’s north to come back to their homes

TEL AVIV, November 13. /TASS/. Any agreement on a ceasefire in Lebanon must include a clause which stipulates that Israel be allowed to continue eradicating the Hezbollah movement wherever it may be, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said during his visit to the Northern Command together with General Staff Head Herzi Halevi.

"We [Israel] will not enter into any ceasefire agreement, nor will we accept any arrangement which does not align with our war objectives," Katz said, as quoted by the Israel Hayom newspaper.

"Above all, this means Israel’s right to use force and act independently against any terrorist activity [in Lebanon]," the defense minister added. "We will continue to strike Hezbollah everywhere."

Katz pointed out that the goals of the war in the north are to disarm Hezbollah, to push its forces past the Litani River deep within Lebanese territory, and to make it possible for the residents of Israel’s north to come back to their homes. On September 23, Israel launched Operation Northern Arrows against Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, carrying out massive strikes on the movement’s military targets. On September 27, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah was killed after Israel dropped bombs on Beirut. On October 1, the IDF announced a ground operation in the border areas in southern Lebanon.
