DUBAI, November 14. /TASS/. Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi called for preventing attacks on nuclear facilities amid the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
"Nuclear facilities should not be subject to military attacks, there can be very serious radiological consequences to such attacks," the IAEA chief said at a news conference with President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami in Tehran broadcast by Iran’s state TV.
Earlier, Israel’s new Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Iranian nuclear facilities were more vulnerable than ever which he said could help remove the threat of annihilation hanging over Israel.
Meanwhile, Eslami warned that Tehran would take measures in response to any IAEA resolutions that may imply interference in the Islamic republic’s nuclear program which he said would continue its development in line with Iran’s national interests. He made the warning ahead of a Vienna meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors’ technical committee scheduled for November 18-22.
On October 1, the Islamic Republic launched a massive missile attack on Israel in response to the killing of senior officials from the Palestinian movement Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to the Israeli side, around 180 projectiles were fired, with most of them being intercepted. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that the attacks on Israel would then only be expanded.
On October 26, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was conducting surgical strikes on military targets in Iran "in response to months of continuous attacks." Israel used an Iraqi area controlled by US troops for the attack, the General Staff of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces said in a statement. Four Iranian servicemen and one civilian were killed as a result of the attack.
