Rostec begins assembly of first serial-production PD-8 engines for SJ-100

Their delivery to the UAC aircraft plant and installation on the Superjet are scheduled for the near future

MOSCOW, June 25. /TASS/. The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has begun assembling the first serial-production PD-8 engines for the import-substituted SJ-100 aircraft, the state corporation announced. The first serial-production powerplants will be handed over to the customer in the coming months.

"UEC-Saturn is launching serial production of the PD-8 engine. The first engine kits for assembling the production powerplants have been manufactured. Their delivery to the UAC aircraft plant and installation on the Superjet are scheduled for the near future. The enterprise’s production facilities are prepared for a high work pace and will be configured to meet our customer’s needs. Our goal is to continuously improve and optimize the manufacturing process," CEO of UEC-Saturn Ilya Konyukhov was quoted as saying.

As part of preparations for serial production, UEC-Saturn purchased and commissioned around 100 units of modern machine tools and equipment, and acquired necessary cutting and inspection tools.

"Our engine manufacturers have achieved what until recently seemed impossible: in just six years, twice as fast as the global industry standard, they developed the new domestic PD-8 aircraft engine for the import-substituted Superjet. Seventeen fundamentally new technologies were implemented during the development of this new powerplant. The current objective is to ramp up to serial production of the engines," Rostec said.
