TBILISI, December 24. /TASS/. The Georgian authorities have become unacceptable for Georgia’s so-called friends after they refused to participate in the Ukrainian scenario, said Kakha Kaladze, Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party and Mayor of Tbilisi.
"After the events in Ukraine began, foreign forces became interested in Georgia. They wanted to use Georgia as a foothold for their interests. The Georgian Dream government, which refuses to weaken Georgia, let alone carry out the orders of Georgia’s so-called friends at the expense of its own destruction, has become unacceptable to them," Kaladze said, presenting the 2025 draft city budget to the city assembly.
According to the mayor, the country faced unprecedented pressure because of this.
"Our country and government were subjected to unprecedented pressure to act not in the interest of our country and the people’s peaceful future, but to consider the interests of other large countries, which posed clear risks to our country’s security," he added.
Kaladze emphasized that the ruling party demonstrated high responsibility and political maturity and showed the entire world that it would always be principled when it comes to protecting national interests.
On February 25, 2022, former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced that he did not plan to impose sanctions against Russia, citing Georgia’s national interests. Later, in March, Vladimir Zelensky withdrew the Ukrainian ambassador from Tbilisi because of Georgia’s stance on sanctions. This decision was also criticized by the opposition, who accused the republican authority of collaborating with Russia.
