Mercenaries from 55 countries participate in the fighting in Ukraine on the side of Kiev as part of the so-called International Legion, created by the Ukrainian authorities, the representative of this formation Damien Magru said on Monday at a briefing in Kiev, according to Ukrinform agency.

"We have representatives from 55 countries from all continents, even Brazil, South Korea, Australia," Magru was quoted. According to him, the formation has the largest number of US and British citizens, followed by citizens of Poland and Canada.

Answering a question about the funding for the International Legion, the representative said that this formation is part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and receives funding from the Ukrainian military budget.
