CHISINAU, March 25. /TASS/. Vitaly Ignatyev, the foreign minister of Transnistria, informed a high-ranking official from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) about barriers installed by the Moldovan side preventing supplies of medicines and medical equipment from getting to the republic, Transnistria’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On Monday, Ignatyev met for talks with the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Republic of Moldova Doris El Doueihy.
"They [Moldova] increase tensions, incite social and humanitarian crises," the statement from the ministry reads. "We can all see success if your organization encourages the Moldovan authorities to consider this issue from the humanitarian point of view."
Transnistria was left in a complicated situation after Ukraine had decided to close its stretch of the state border with the unrecognized republic. For the first time since the republic proclaimed its independence, all goods bound for Transnistria must be in full compliance with Moldova’s legislation.
Transnistria relies heavily on supplies of medicines from the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), but many of these medicines are not officially registered in Moldova and are being blocked at the state border.
In 2022, Transnistrian authorities appealed to the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as to the participants of the "Five plus Two" format participants (Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, as well as EU and US observers), but the problem remained unsolved.
