MURMANSK, April 12. /TASS/. The Imandra Viking Fest, the winner of Nornickel’s School of Urban Competences competition, is scheduled for summer, 2019, in the Murmansk Region’s Monchegorsk, press service of Kola MMC (a part of Nornickel) said on Thursday.
"The Imandra Viking Fest, supported by Nornickel, will take place this summer in Monchegorsk," the press service said.
Five applications participated in Nornickel’s competition. The Expert Council announced the only winner Imandra Viking Fest - the Murmansk Region’s first festival of Nordic culture. The festival’s format is a voyage of Vikings, during which the participants will learn about the Vikings’ culture and will have an opportunity to feel living inside that ancient epoch.
School of Urban Competences is a project under Nornickel’s World of New Opportunities charity program. Its task is to teach regional teams how to implement urban events to develop local economies and to make the districts attractive for tourists.
The Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company is a leading production complex in the Murmansk Region - a major producer of non-ferrous metals, including strategic metals. The Kola MMC accounts for 39% of nickel and 42% of cobalt the Norilsk Nickel Company produces. The products are supplied to the domestic market and exported to European countries. Nickel is a basic part of most super-alloys - heat-resistant materials used in the aerospace industry for power machines’ parts. Russia’s one of the biggest deposits of nickel containing ores is in the Murmansk Region.
