MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/. Moscow residents laid flowers at the Embassy of Greece on Wednesday to pay tribute to the scores of people who lost their lives to the inferno raging through the country.
Bouquets of roses and carnations lay near the diplomatic mission’s entrance, and representatives from the Greek diaspora in Russia left wreaths with ribbons and condolences in their native language.
A heat wave has engulfed Greece since early July with temperatures rocketing to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) over the past few days. On Monday, wildfires erupted in the outskirts of the Greek capital, Athens. According to the latest data, 79 people died and more than 180 others were wounded in the catastrophic inferno. A three-day mourning was declared in Greece on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his condolences to the Greek authorities over the deadly wildfires and offered help in combating the blazes.
