MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed Eurasian security issues, relations with the US, the Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement followed a meeting between the ministers in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the G20 Ministerial Council.
"There was a thorough exchange of views on global and regional issues, including Eurasian security, the situation in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, relations with the US and the Ukrainian crisis. The foreign ministers discussed interaction between the two countries within the UN, other international organizations and various multilateral formats," the ministry said.
"Wang Yi stressed that while promoting initiatives in favor of a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, Beijing considers it necessary to address its root causes on the basis of the relevant principles of the UN Charter, first of all, the requirements for unconditional respect for human rights," the statement said.
According to the ministry, the sides also praised the development of political dialogue and practical interaction between Russia and China "as a stabilizing factor amid the continuing turbulence of the global system."
"Particular attention was paid to the work to ensure the implementation of agreements reached between the heads of two states and the preparation of the upcoming 2025 Russian-Chinese contacts at the highest and high levels," the ministry stated.
In addition, the ministers compared notes on issues related to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.
"A special emphasis was placed on the activities of the G20 on building an equal dialogue between representatives of the world majority and the West in the financial and economic areas on the basis of compliance with the G20 mandate by all," the ministry said.
"The conversation was held in a traditionally trust-based and constructive manner, which is characteristic of the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership," the statement said.
