Putin expects proposals on sports parades at Red Square by March

Previously, this initiative was proposed by head of the International Boxing Association Umar Kremlev during the president’s visit to the "Russia - a country of sports" forum in Perm, where the Council meeting took place

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. The Russian government will prepare its proposals on holding sports parades at the Red Square by March 1, 2024.

"Present proposals on holding sports parades at the Red Square in Moscow. The timeframe - by March 1, 2024," says one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s orders for the government, issued after the October meeting of the Council on Physical education and sports.

Previously, this initiative was proposed by head of the International Boxing Association Umar Kremlev during the president’s visit to the "Russia - a country of sports" forum in Perm, where the Council meeting took place. Putin noted back then that this idea was good.

Russia’s first parade of physical education (PE) instructors was held on Red Square in 1919. Starting from 1931, such parades became regular events, attracting thousands of participants and attended by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. The tradition was suspended due to the Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945. Between 1946 and 1954, such parades took place at the Dynamo stadium. Since mid-1950s and until the very dissolution of the USSR, Physical education marches opened May 1 and November 7 rallies at the Red Square.
