Friendly countries want to participate in Trans-Arctic transport corridor project

The Northern Sea Route is a shipping route and the main sea line in the Russian sector of the Arctic Ocean

MOSCOW, June 16. /TASS/. Partners from friendly countries have huge interest in the Northern Sea Route (NSR) as the Arctic transport corridor, and they want to take part in the implementation of the project, Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit said in an interview with TASS General Director Andrey Kondrashov in the run-up to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"We particularly focus on international transport corridors. The Northern Sea Route is already the Arctic transport corridor: St. Petersburg-Murmansk-Vladivostok. The border is expanding because our partners, friendly countries, have huge interest. They want to participate in the implementation of the project," he said.

The Northern Sea Route is a shipping route and the main sea line in the Russian sector of the Arctic Ocean. It stretches along Russia’s northern coastline across the seas of the Arctic Ocean (Barents, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, Chukchi, and Bering seas). The route consolidates Russia’s European and Far Eastern ports and Siberia’s navigable rivers into a single transport system. The route’s length is 5,600 km, stretching from the Kara Strait to Providence Bay.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will take place on June 18-21. This year, the event will be held under the theme "Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World." Thematic zones such as the ‘Territory of Innovations’ and the national brand space ‘Buy Russian!’ will operate at the Forum.

The program includes the SME Forum, the Creative Industries Forum, the Day of the Future International Youth Economic Forum, the Drug Security Forum, and the Roscongress Urban Hub discussion platform. As part of the cultural program, the Petersburg Seasons festival will be held, and the SPIEF Sports Games will take place.

The Roscongress Foundation is the organizer of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. TASS is its information partner.
