Chinese leader calls for joint fight against food and energy crises

Xi Jinping stressed that it was necessary to promote economic globalization

ST. PETERSBURG, June 17. /TASS/. China calls for joint fight against food and energy crises to restore global economy, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday in his video address to participants of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"It is necessary to promote economic globalization. We should strengthen coordination of states development policies and harmonization of international regulations and standards, abandon the practice of disengagement and disruption of supplies, unilateral sanctions and maximum pressure, eliminate trade barriers, ensure the sustainability of global production chains, and jointly deal with worsening food and energy crises to restore the global economy," he said.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum organized by the Roscongress Foundation is running from June 15 to 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. The SME Forum, the Creative Business Forum, the Drug Security Forum, the SPIEF Junior Dialogue and SPIEF Sport Week are also going to be part of the SPIEF event.
