The UN believes the telephone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump to be important and praises the contacts between the leaders of the two countries, Secretary-General’s deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said at a briefing.

"I think the important point about the call is that it has taken place. It's important for the leadership in the United States and the Russian Federation to be in touch with each other, and we appreciate it in that respect," he said in response to a corresponding question.

Earlier, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump has ended. According to NBC News, the call lasted over an hour and a half.
