MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. Ukraine has ultimately turned into an anti-Russia entity, and no matter what agreements Moscow and Washington reach, Kiev will always hinder their implementation, said Viktor Medvedchuk, former leader of Ukraine’s banned "Opposition Platform - For Life" party who now leads the "Another Ukraine" movement.
"No matter what mutually beneficial agreements the US and Russia reach, Zelensky’s Ukraine will always seek to undermine them. <...> Under Zelensky, Ukraine ultimately turned into an ‘anti-Russia’ entity, and the anti-Russia entity does not need peace at all," he wrote in an op-ed for the Smotrim.ru media platform.
According to Medvedchuk, the Ukrainian authorities only nominally agree with the US, while continuing to promote the ideas that Ukraine finds "fundamental." In particular, the Ukrainian foreign minister has reiterated the messages about the country’s territorial integrity, its EU and NATO membership, and the need to hold Russia accountable. Zelensky's team is actually trying to tell Washington what to do, Medvedchuk noted. "Meanwhile, Zelensky’s gang is not bothered by the fact that in order to achieve that, the US would have to enter a war with Russia, which would likely be nuclear," the politician stressed. "The problem is not only that Zelensky’s Ukraine is unwilling to take Russia’s interests into account but also that the US interests are being ignored too," he added.
In his view, Ukraine has ultimately lost the opportunity to become a sovereign, democratic, and neutral country.
Medvedchuk believes that the leaders of Russia and the US "still have a chance to make an agreement on Ukraine’s future existence, albeit with a reduced territory." "However, the current Ukrainian leaders and influencers are unable to see it as a way to save the country, and be grateful for such a scenario," Medvedchuk emphasized.
Putin and Trump held a phone call on March 18, discussing the idea of a 30-day ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, ways to prevent a further escalation of tensions and a number of international issues. The Russian leader supported the US president’s initiative for an energy and infrastructure ceasefire in Ukraine.
