West not not crazy enough to poke Russia into using nukes — Medvedev

The Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman expressed confidence that every Western politician understood the consequences a nuclear conflict could entail

ST. PETERSBURG, June 24. /TASS/. The West isn't crazy - it doesn't have a concerted strategy to push Russia into using its nukes, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF), according to a TASS correspondent.

"I believe they have no deliberate strategy to provoke us into using nuclear weapons, because although there are different people in the West and in Europe, and you know the epithets I use for most European leaders, they do not want to die in a global nuclear disaster," Medvedev said.

According to the politician, the West has "promoted the narrative" of using nuclear weapons in an attempt to force Moscow to "capitulate on a number of issues."

"Short-sighted, and at times simply foolish, people are trying to sustain tensions through their own actions," the Security Council deputy chairman said.

Medvedev expressed confidence that every Western politician understands the consequences a nuclear conflict could entail.

"That is why playing games with this issue will not end well for them," he concluded.
