Qatar loses chance to reach FIFA World Cup knockout stage

The team was defeated by Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-3

WASHINGTON, June 24. /TASS/. Qatar has lost its chance to get it to the playoffs after being defeated by Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-3 in round 3 of the FIFA World Cup group stage in Seattle.

The goals were scored by Kerim Alajbegovic (in the 29th minute) and Ermin Mahmic (in the 80th minute) for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Qatar’s Mahmoud Abunada scored an own goal in the 34th minute. Hassan Al-Haydos scored for Qatar in the 42nd minute.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is third in Group B with four points and still has chances to get into the knockout stage. Qatar is the fourth in the group with one point and will leave the tournament. The group is led by Switzerland (seven points), followed by Canada (four points).

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States between June 11 and July 19. The matches are staged in 16 cities across the three countries. This is the first FIFA World Cup featuring 48 teams instead of the previous 32-team format.
