Switzerland beats Canada, with both reaching FIFA World Cup knockout stage

WASHINGTON, June 25. /TASS/. Switzerland defeated Canada 2-1 in round 3 of the FIFA World Cup group stage in Vancouver, and both teams have made it to the playoffs.

The goals were scored by Ruben Vargas (in the 46 minute) and Johan Manzambi (in the 57th minute) for Switzerland and by Promise David (in the 76th minute) for Canada.

Switzerland tops Group B with seven points. Canada is second with four points. Canada has reached the FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States between June 11 and July 19. The matches are staged in 16 cities across the three countries. This is the first FIFA World Cup featuring 48 teams instead of the previous 32-team format.
