DUBAI, January 16. /TASS/. The Iraqi government intends to file a complaint with the UN Security Council (UNSC) in connection with the missile strike carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, part of the Iranian Armed Forces) on Erbil - the administrative center of Iraqi Kurdistan.
"The Iraqi government strongly condemns Iran's attack on the city of Erbil. Ballistic missiles were fired at apartment buildings, which caused civilian casualties," reads a statement published on the Foreign Ministry's Facebook page (banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).
Baghdad intends to file a complaint with the UN Security Council over "aggression against sovereignty."
On Tuesday, the IRGC struck Israeli "spy centers" in Erbil, as well as supporters of anti-Iranian terrorist groups in Iraqi Kurdistan, the IRNA news agency said. According to a statement issued by elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces, the facilities near Erbil were attacked in response to the January 3 terrorist attack in Iran's Kerman, as well as "the Zionist regime's recent atrocities that led to the martyrdom of commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the resistance axis.".
