BELGRADE, November 28. /TASS/. The situation in Kosovo and Metohija is "literally boiling," Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday.
Speaking to Serbian journalists in Oslo, he noted that "the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is literally boiling." "It has boiled over with the Serbs [in Kosovo and Metohija], because, you know, they are being mistreated, tortured," he said, recalling instances when the unrecognized Kosovo’s authorities barred Serbian nationals from voting, and illegally arrested them. He also recalled 19 cases when Kosovo’s riot police intruded into the territory populated by the Serbs.
Vucic is on a two-day visit to Norway to discuss energy issues, the problem of Kosovo and Metohija, and bilateral relations.
On November 5, Kosovo and Metohija Serbs quitted all government institutions of unrecognized Kosovo after the Kosovo authorities had decided to fine those who did not change their Serbian license plates starting November 22. Fines will amount to 150 euros. After April 21, 2023, when the transition period is over, the Kosovo police will be authorized to seize cars with Serbian plates.
Following EU-brokered talks between Belgrade and Pristina on November 23, Prime Minister of the unrecognized Kosovo Albin Kurti, under pressure from the United States, dropped the policy of fines for Serbian license plates.
