SCO opposes attempts to resolve global issues through confrontation

The SCO is not a military alliance and there are no confrontational aspects to its foundations, SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming noted

BEIJING, March 24. /TASS/. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) opposes attempts to resolve regional and global issues through bloc policies and confrontation, SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming said in an interview with TASS.

"The SCO pursues the principles of non-alignment and not being directed against other countries and regions, and also opposes attempts to resolve regional and global issues through bloc policies, ideologization and confrontational thinking," he pointed out.

According to the secretary general, "the SCO has always been committed to playing a constructive role in responding to common threats and challenges." Zhang Ming also emphasized that the SCO was not a military alliance and there were no confrontational aspects to its foundations.

"SCO member states are committed to strengthening mutual trust, good-neighborly relations, friendship, regional peace, security and stability, as well as to facilitating the economic, social and cultural development of member states through cooperation," the secretary general noted. He stressed that those ideas were concentrated in the "Shanghai Spirit" (the concept of international relations on which cooperation within the SCO is based) and constituted a unique generic feature of the SCO’s spirituality.
