KRYMSK, November 11. /TASS/. Nearly 14 mln tourists visited the resorts in Russia’s southern region of Krasnodar in the first nine months of 2016, which is a new record for the region, Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev said at a regional meeting on tourism.
“In a nine months period, almost 14 million tourists visited our resorts, this is an all-time record. We achieved this record because Russian tourists did not have an opportunity to travel to Turkey and Egypt this summer season,” Kondratyev said adding that the tourist inflow to the city of Anapa and the Krymsky district grew by 20%.
He also said that the regional authorities collected over 4.5 billion rubles (roughly $71 mln) in taxes during this period.
As TASS reported earlier, the number of tourists visiting the Krasnodar region increased by 40% in the past five years, from 10.6 mln people in 2010 to 15 mln in 2015.
