Russia’s expulsion from UNSC unrealistic — Russian mission

According to the Russian diplomat, UN reforming "requires a situation close to a consensus, or, ideally, a consensus

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanksy has slammed speculations about Russia’s possible expulsion from the UN Security Council as pure populism.

"This is pure populism. Because any infringement upon the basic domain of the Security Council, which is committed to paper in the UN Charter, is an unrealistic undertaking. If anything radical is introduced into the United Nations, it will entail an overall reshaping of this organization, changing its charter and so on. As a matter of fact, it will be a different organization," he said in an interview with the Vesti FM radio station.

"Naturally, there are people who don’t want to see Russia there. <…> Everyone understands perfectly well that this is a UN pivot structure. If it is demolished, the whole organization will be demolished," he said. "No one is interested in it."

According to the Russian diplomat, UN reforming "requires a situation close to a consensus, or, ideally, a consensus." "It is crystal clear that the rights of the Security Council members, including Russia, will stay intact - we will simply object against any other reform scenario," Polyansky stressed.
