MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military constantly attempts to counter-attack in the area around Ugledar but Russian forces successfully repel these attacks, acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said on Monday.
"Positional warfare is underway there [in the Ugledar direction]. The enemy constantly attempts to counter-attack and tries to improve its positions and retake its lost sites. However, the [Russian] units withstand the enemy’s attacks quite successfully in complex conditions and try to improve their positions wherever possible," Pushilin said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
Ugledar, a scene of fierce fighting, is located southwest of Donetsk. As the DPR explained, the town’s seizure will enable Russian troops to deliver strikes on Ukrainian army positions in several directions and help cut off the Ukrainian battlegroup’s supplies in the Maryinka area from where the western part of Donetsk has been shelled. It was reported earlier that Russian forces had gained ground in the southern and eastern parts of Ugledar.
