Trade turnover between Georgia, Russia slumps nearly 30% year on year in January

Georgia’s foreign trade turnover plunged by 14.8% to more than $1.3 bln

TBILISI, February 19. /TASS/. The trade turnover between Russia and Georgia tumbled by 28% year on year in January 2024 to $190 mln, according to the National Statistics Service of Georgia.

Russia ranks second among the South Caucasus country’s top trading partners. It accounted for a 14.2% share of Georgia’s foreign trade volume. Georgian exports of merchandise to Russia fell by 52.6% in January 2024 to more than $41 bln. Imports lost 15.6% and totaled more than $148 mln.

Turkey ranks first among Georgia’s trading partners, with the bilateral trade volume totaling $233 mln, up 16.2% year on year. China comes in third with a trade turnover above $96 mln (down 0.9% year on year).

Georgia’s foreign trade turnover plunged by 14.8% to more than $1.3 bln. Exports fell by 26.2% to $338.6 mln. Imports lost 10.1% to come in at more than $1 bln.
