HAIKOU /China/, January 27. /TASS/. The aircraft repair base on the territory of the Meilan International Airport Special Customs Zone in the city of Haikou (the administrative center of South China's Hainan Province) provided services worth 32.3 million yuan (more than $4.5 million at current exchange rates) in 2023, the Haikou Daily newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the maintenance center received 25 airplanes and 2 aircraft engines for repair over the 12 months. Their combined import and export value is estimated at about 12.4 billion yuan (over $1.7 billion).
To improve the efficiency of clearance, the local customs office has established a channel of communication with involved enterprises, simplified procedures for them and provided a green corridor to allow the aircraft and their parts to be promptly cleared for repair in Haikou. It is noted that it is possible to book aircraft for inspection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Gu Zhencheng, deputy head of customs at Meilan Airport, said authorities will continue to provide favorable conditions for aircraft repair under the duty-free import and export policy. The authorities plan to listen to feedback from companies using the services of the Haikou aircraft repair base.
