Russia welcomes newly-elected IFRC Governing Board member

The election took place on June 19

MOSCOW, June 24. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry has welcomed the election of Russian Red Cross (RRC) Chairman Pavel Savchuk as a member of the Governing Board of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the ministry said in a statement published on its website on Friday.

"Pavel Savchuk, chairman of the oldest Russian humanitarian organization - the Russian Red Cross - has been elected to the council upon results of the vote. Thus, the Russian Red Cross society will be again represented in the IFRC Governing Board after a decade-long break," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The election took place on June 19 at the IFRC’s 23rd General Assembly, held in Geneva on June 18 through 23. The IFRC General Assembly, the highest body representing all national societies, meets at least once every two years and establishes the IFRC’s general policy. The Governing Board governs the IFRC between each General Assembly and meets at least twice a year. Elections to the Governing Board are held every four years.
