Legend of Kolovrat epic blockbuster hits Russian screens

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the film as impressive and captivating

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. ‘The Legend of Kolovrat’, a new Russian epic blockbuster also known as ‘Furious’, was released on Thursday.

The film is set in the 13th century when Russia was under control of the Golden horde and is based on the ancient Tale of the Destruction of Ryazan, a city some 150 kilometers to the southeast of Moscow, by Mongol ruler Khan Batu.

The movie tells about Ryazan knight Yevpaty Kolovrat who led a small squad of Ryazan warrior to fight back the almighty khan.

Producer Dzhanik Faiziyev said this film is "first of all, a love story."

‘The Legend of Kolovrat’ is the first Russian film made using the chroma keying technique (the compositing of two images or video streams together based on color hues).

Some 300 costumes were made for the project. Furs, leather and cloths were purchased in India, Turkey, China, Russia and Mongolia.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by Serj Tankian, the lead vocalist and songwriter of the alternative metal band System of a Down.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised the blockbuster as impressive and captivating.

"I think people will be watching it with interest. And the idea itself is very good," he said.

The film will be shown in more than 1,000 movie theaters across Russia.

Before the release, ‘The Legend of Kolvrat’ was sold to 80 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Mongolia.
