Russian space agency Roscosmos says cyberattacks on its websites senseless

The motive is clear but the company does not understand the expediency of these attacks, Director of the Digital Development Department Konstantin Shadrin noted

MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Russian space agency Roscosmos manages to fend off massive cyberattacks on its websites from abroad but sees no sense in these attempts as its websites store no important data, Director of the Roscosmos Digital Development Department Konstantin Shadrin said on Saturday.

"We have managed to prevent a part of attempted hacks but in some cases we have to carry out work to recover websites and remove fakes. The motive is clear for us but we do not understand the expediency of these attacks as our websites do not keep any important data - these are just informative visiting cards and it is not interesting to hack them," the Roscosmos press office quoted Shadrin as saying.

Roscosmos will transfer data on cyberattacks to competent agencies, he said.

As the Russian space agency specified, on March 3 and 4, the websites of its enterprises were subjected to a massive cyberattack from various IP addresses registered on the territory of various Western countries, largely in the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands and Australia.

In particular, the cyberattacks targeted the resources of Energia Space Rocket Corporation, the Khrunichev Space Center, the Center for the Operation of the Ground-Based Space Infrastructure, the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems Company and the Ust-Katav Wagon-Building Plant, the Russian space agency said.

"Attempts were made to hack websites and create fake pages copying the content of official websites," the press office said.
