MOSCOW, July 15. /TASS/. The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has received no official requests following the death of British national Paul Urey in the DPR, DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said on Friday.
"As for official requests about this mercenary, <…> there have been none from the United Kingdom so far," she said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.
According to Nikonorova, Urey died from coronary failure. "He died from coronary failure complicated by pulmonary edema and brain swelling, this is the official information," she said, adding that a forensic check was conducted after his death.
She also said that Urey had undergone a medical examination and his diagnoses had been confirmed. "He received all necessary medical support, but, regrettably died on July 10," she said.
The DPR top diplomat pointed to the fact that Urey had been a mercenary, who recruited and trained other mercenaries. "But despite such grave crimes, he was granted medical assistance because we are committed to international principles and norms, including in relation to those people who are under trial," she stressed.
DPR human rights ombudswoman Darya Morozova said earlier that a British mercenary Paul Urey died of chronic diseases and depression in captivity in the DPR on July 10. His diagnoses included type 1 diabetes, respiratory system and kidney disorders, as well as cardiovascular diseases. In addition, he was depressed because of the UK’s indifference to his fate. Medical assistance was provided to him.
Morozova also said that the British authorities, international organizations and foreign media were informed about Urey’s imprisonment but no reaction followed from them.
