Russian, Ukrainian gymnasts may compete in same tournament for the first time since 2022

The 2025 World Cup in artistic gymnastics will be held in Doha from April 16 to 19

MOSCOW, March 23. /TASS/. The April stage of the World Cup in Doha became the first competition in three years for which gymnasts from both Russia and Ukraine have applied, as evidenced by the documents available to TASS.

The last time they competed against each other was in early March 2022 at the World Cup stage, which was also held in the capital of Qatar.

The 2025 World Cup in artistic gymnastics will be held in Doha from April 16 to 19.

Seven Russian gymnasts with neutral status have applied for this tournament. These are Kirill Prokopyev, Vladislav Polyashov, Ilya Zaika, Grigory Klimentyev, Angelina Melnikova, Alena Glotova and Zlata Osokina. The Ukrainian team's application included six athletes: Nazar Chepurnyi, Vladimir Kostyuk, Oleg Verniaiev, Vladislav Griko, Polina Dyachenko and Diana Lobok.

Chepurnyi is the only one of the above-mentioned gymnasts who competed three years ago at the World Cup stage in Doha. Russia was then represented by Olympic champions Victoria Listunova and Vladislava Urazova, as well as Arina Semukhina, Maria Minaeva, Alexander Kartsev, Ivan Stretovich and Ivan Kulyak.

After the tournament in Doha, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to ban Russian and Belarusian gymnasts from competing in tournaments under the auspices of FIG. Since 2024, gymnasts from Russia and Belarus have been allowed to take part in competitions of the international federation if they have a neutral status.
