MOSCOW, June 24. /TASS/. Russia sees attempts to use technology innovations in the interests of interstate confrontation, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said at the 9th Moscow conference on international security on Thursday.
"Already today, we see attempts to use these innovations in the interests of interstate confrontation," Patrushev said.
The list of new threats that may confront the international community in the immediate future is not just limited to biological risks, he emphasized.
The rapid development of technologies, such as artificial intelligence, new materials, and synthetic biology is a major trend that can no longer be ignored, and all these elements have become a part of contemporary life, the Russian security chief said.
"It is within our power to place them under the control of the entire international community and turn them into the instruments of creation rather than tools of destruction," the secretary of the Russian Security Council said.
As the Russian security chief also emphasized, the international community should not forget about climate change, which may reshape the global political map in the first half of this century already and, in the worst-case scenario, may provoke an unprecedented global crisis that would push mankind’s development back decades.
In Patrushev’s opinion, this factor cannot be ignored even in mid-term planning.
