MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. The Verkhovna Rada has removed from its agenda a bill that would have introduced criminal liability for military commissars involved in illegal mobilization, according to Maxim Buzhansky, an MP from the ruling Servant of the People party.
"Dear Ukrainians, Bill No. 12442, which introduces criminal liability for military commissars for the illegal mobilization of individuals with a deferment and for medical commission employees who declare obviously ill patients as completely healthy, has been removed from the agenda for the next plenary week of the Verkhovna Rada," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Ukraine declared a nationwide state of general mobilization on February 24, 2022, and has extended it several times since. Due to issues with staffing the military, a bill on toughening mobilization rules came into effect on May 18, 2024. Over recent months, mobilization efforts have increasingly involved the use of force. Not wanting to end up on the frontlines, draft-age men try to leave the country, frequently risking their lives to do so.
From time to time, cases of beating people in military enlistment offices come up, which sometimes lead to their deaths. Spontaneous protests against mobilization have repeatedly erupted in the country.
