Tajik president re-elected as leader of country’s ruling party

Additionally, the congress approved nominations for the party’s new central executive committee, its leadership, and the composition of other party bodies and structures

DUSHANBE, December 18. /TASS/. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has been re-elected as the chairman of the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), with his nomination unanimously supported by participants of the party’s 15th congress held in Dushanbe.

Additionally, the congress approved nominations for the party’s new central executive committee, its leadership, and the composition of other party bodies and structures.

When opening the congress, Rahmon congratulated its participants and all the PDPT’s members on the 30th anniversary of its founding, as well as reviewed the party’s activity over the past five years.

The congress also nominated 28 party members as candidates from the single republic-wide district for elections to Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament, which will be held on March 2, 2025. "The congress approved the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan’s election program, which encompasses the most important priorities of the country’s economic and social development for 2025-2030, and established the party’s Central Election Headquarters," the presidential press service added.

The PDPT, founded in 1994, is Tajikistan’s largest political party. Rahmon joined it in March 1998 and has been its leader ever since.
